Danakil Depression and Tigray Rock hewn churches
The Danakil Depression is located in the Afar region in northeastern Ethiopia, where close to the border of Eritrea and Djibouti and also known as Afar Triangle. It’s considered one of the hottest, driest and the most inhospitable place in the world. It is also the lowest regions on face of earth (125 meters below sea level). One of the most geologically active regions with three tectonic plates meeting at the Afar Triple Junction. When tectonic plates move apart like at Danakil, it creates lave lakes, hot springs, geysers and fissures in the ground. The process of Salt mining, packing salt bar on the back of camel and transporting to Tigray highland in a long line of camel caravan.

Day 01: Addis Ababa
Arrival Addis Ababa depending up on your arrival time you will have a city tour of Addis Ababa. City tour of Addis includes: -
AM start exploring Addis Ababa beginning with a visit to the National Museum, one of the most important sub- Saharan museums in all of Africa the museum is home to the fossilized humanoid Lucy, as well as an amazing collection of artifacts, royal items and art. We then visit the Ethnological Museum, which was the former palace of Haile Selassie.
PM Trinity Cathedral is the largest Orthodox Church in Ethiopia and has survived through many historical periods, as its interesting architecture can attest to. The Cathedral contains the thrones and the tombs of the emperor and some of the royal family. Visit Mountain Entoto to view panoramic view of Addis. Finally visit Merkato, the largest open-air market in Africa. Overnight at hotel of your choice
Day Two: Addis Ababa - Mekele - Hamed Ela
Arrive Addis Ababa Bole international airport to fly to Mekele and After quick refresh in the town start drive to Danakil depression all way down from Tigrian Mountain to below sea level enjoying the layer formation of the Rock. Stop at Barahale to have police officers that join us from the region, road guide and then continue to Hamed Ela. Late afternoon enjoying the sunset at lake Asale. After visit drive back to the camp. Overnight at Hamed Ela camping.
Day Three: Hamed Ela - Dallol
After an early breakfast start your day descending to the lowest point in the Danakil Depression – Dallol 125 meter below sea level. Drive to Sulfur spring which has a uniquely colorful of volcanic terrain and its ridiculously high temperatures as much as 45 degree, Dallol is known around the world as the 'hottest inhabited place on the planet'. After a little time here, we're sure you'll agree!
Your time in Dallol includes a visit to the grueling local salt mines and a chance to watch the camel caravans of the Afar people who live in this inhospitable place. After visiting drive back to the camp overnight camping at Hamedela.
Day Four: Hamed Ela - Erta Ale
Drive to Erta Ale via Aba Ala and to Kusrewad where to arrange camels, local Militia and Road guide to the Erta Ale Mountain. After arranging the local staff drives to the foothill where we park our car and when the sun set start trekking to the summit. After three hours trekking you rich to the summit where you enjoy the active volcano. After visit volcano have your dinner there and overnight on the top of the mountain
Day Five: Erta Ale - Tigray - Wukro
You'll have another early start today, as you'll descend back to Dodom village to meet your car and begin the drive to Wukro. Stop at Wukro Town for coffee stop and to say goodbye to the staff in Danakil depression. Visit Wukro Cherqos church and drive to the Lodge. Overnight at Wukro Lodge.
Day Six: Wukro – Mekele - Addis Ababa
Morning have early breakfast and the drive to Gheralta region to Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor. These two churches are found on the top of Gheralta mountain. To visit needs to trek 1and half an hour up to the mountain and 1 hour to walk down. The trekking to the mountain will gives breathtaking mountain view over Megab village. After visit retrace back to the car to Mekele. On the way back stop to visit Abraha We Atsebeha church which Monolithic and rock hewn church. After visiting drive back to Mekele for late after noon or night flight to Addis Ababa.
